Wihlborgs opens Börshuset – historic building ready for a new chapter in Malmö

{newsItem.title}

Following an extensive and careful renovation, Börshuset is reopening. The historic building, deeply rooted in Malmö’s commercial and business history, has been redeveloped with respect for its cultural heritage and with the ambition of becoming a central hub for meetings, exchange of ideas and businesses that contribute to Malmö’s continued development.

Börshuset was originally constructed in the late 19th century as a customs and packing house, during a period when Malmö was rapidly growing as a trading city and an important hub for rail and maritime transport. Over the years, the building has served several purposes but has always remained an integral part of the city’s pulse. It is now reopening once again, this time with a focus on meetings, culinary experiences and attractive workplaces for companies, residents of Malmö and visitors alike.

The renovation, which began in 2023, has been carried out with the aim of preserving Börshuset’s cultural and historical values while adapting the building to modern requirements for functionality, accessibility and energy efficiency. The project has been guided by a careful and respectful approach, where the original structure—still in good condition—has been preserved, while later additions have been reworked. Among other measures, the façade has been adjusted with inspiration from the building’s original late-19th-century design, and glass sections from the 1980s have been redesigned. By spring, the waterfront area will also be completed, with restaurants, terraces and improved outdoor spaces making the site more open and inviting.

By bringing together multiple functions under one roof, Wihlborgs aims to create an environment where ideas can emerge, be tested and developed. On 3 February, the Malmö-based conference operator High Court will open its conference and coworking operations in the building, offering office spaces tailored to different types of companies and needs. The restaurant operations will open in mid-February and will comprise four concepts: a wine kiosk, a deli, a contemporary restaurant (Como) and a restaurant offering more traditional dishes (Margaux). The serviced office facility, with approximately 50 rooms, is divided into four sections with different functions and styles to attract a wide range of businesses.

In addition to High Court, tenants Delphi, Jurek and Coact will move into the building gradually over the course of the year.

“Börshuset is more than a building; it is a place that holds many memories for Malmö. It is a building with a long history and a strong identity, and our task has been to develop it with respect for what already exists. This has required time, expertise and significant investment, but we believe that this careful and long-term approach will create ripple effects that extend far beyond what we can foresee today. Our hope is that Börshuset will become a place for new collaborations and encounters, further strengthening Malmö’s business community,” says Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs.
